The Children's Club of Salasala is mentoring kids through sports, creative arts & the bible.
The past few months have seen some exciting developments for the future of the Children’s Club. We had been given notice by the landowner that we needed to vacate by end of May 2011. Obviously this presented us with a great challenge. After much prayer we approached HOPAC school to see if they would consider allowing us to operate the club on their campus. HOPAC is an ideal location because the quarry were many of the children live backs onto the school.
In April the School Management Team agreed to our proposal, so as from September the club will operate out of HOPAC. We have since gone back to the landowner and he has agreed to allow us to stay until end of August so that we can have a good transition to HOPAC. We thank God for His favour on this work!
As from September the club will have a new look. We will split the larger club of 150 kids into 5 smaller clubs, each having a different emphasis. An under 7s playgroup; 8-11s Boys Multisport group; Teen Boys Soccer Club; 8-11s Girls Creative Arts Club; Teen Girls Homework Club.
We are thankful for an increase in volunteer staff for the coming year. The most exciting development is that HOPAC want to make the club a weekly feature for student involvement through their Service Learning Curriculum. This in practice means that 8 students will be assigned to the club on a 6 week rota, where they serve alongside the regular team and develop projects that would add long term value to the clubs.
Also in partnership with local government leaders, every child will be officially registered with the club and stronger links will be built with parents & guardians. This will enable us to better meet the basic needs of individual children.
Please continue to keep this work in your prayers. God bless Klabu ya Watoto wa Salasala!!
